Chris (Silk) Tery
Chris is originally from Las Vegas Nevada.
He has performed with Legendary groups such as The Drifters, The Coasters, The Four Tops, The O’Jays, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and many, many more.
2016 “Rising Star” Award Winner at “The Cammys”.
The Master Mind of and former drummer for “Carolina Soul Band” has assembled an All-Star Cast of Multi-Platinum & Grammy Nominated Musicians, and Vocalist. He has played on National Stages for “NASCAR”, The NFL’s “Washington Redskins”, & The PGA’s “Masters”, just to name a few.
His newest venture is called “SILK GROOVE”, an 11 Piece Show Band which features live Horns, Bass, Keyboards, Guitar, and of course Chris on Drums, along with a strong 5 Man front line of Vocalist.
He is living his dream, and looking forward to future success with “SILK GROOVE”.
Born in Bridgeport CT, Nate started his musical career at an early age developing his sound and style with the local music scene. His talents were soon recognized by the world of gospel music where he had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such gospel greats as the late “Rev. Timothy Wright”, “Dorothy Norwood”, and “Rance Allen”. His more recent musical endeavors include performances with “The Drifters”, “Carolina Soul Band”, “The Cuffix Band”, & “The Flamingos”, as well as many other gospel and R&B bands.
Nate is a welcome addition to this new endeavor, and is looking ahead to great things with “SILK GROOVE”.
Jonathan's (JP) Phifer
J.P. is from Greensboro, NC, he began singing in church at a very young age. In 1993, he started singing in the Vocal Ensemble at “Smith High School”. During this time, he started his first singing group, “Expression”, which performed at his high school talent show, and Four Seasons mall in Greensboro, NC.
J.P. is a prolific singer and songwriter as well. One day group named “Format” heard him singing at the mall, and asked J.P. to become a member, after high school.
J.P. toured extensively, opening for such National acts as “Boyz II Men”, “Dru Hill”, “Joe”, “Ray J.”, “Big Pun”, “Jesse Powell”, “The Manhattans”, and “K-Ci & Jo Jo”. As a former Singer for “The Legacy Motown Revue”, J.P. brings his vocal skill set to this exciting new chapter of his musical life.
He hopes to have a great time living his dream, and making new memories with his new group “SILK GROOVE”.
Rob was born in the Capitol City of Washington DC, he has a widely varied background, from Catskills tours with “Berklee College of Music’s” recording band conducted by Herb Pomeroy to New England engagements with the avant garde “Hypnotic Clambake”, “Zydeco Vacation”, and “New York Clezmer Orchestra”. Since moving to North Carolina, Rob has played with “The Carolina Soul Band”, “East Coast Rhythm & Blues”, “The Oceanfront Band”, and “SoulPlay”.
Rob is now the cherry on top of the “SILK GROOVE” Horns!
Born in California’s “Bay Area”, Erik was recently recognized by The Recording Academy, and Nominated at the 58th Annual 2016 Grammy Awards in the Best Instrumental Jazz Album & Best Improvised Jazz Solo Categories for the Album “UndercoveR Jazz” featuring “Jeff Lorber”, “Chuck Loeb”, & “Andy Snitzer”.
Erik started shredding keys at an early age while making his mark as the Bay Area’s go-to rock keyboardist, he found himself performing and recording with some of the area’s most popular rock acts of the early eighties. It wasn’t until his move to the east coast that his talents were put to use as a jazz musician touring with the group “Jazzen”.
As a Keyboardist in the Music Ministry, Erik has had the opportunity to play and Lead Worship in USA, and Canada as well. Erik is very much at home performing in a Coliseum 26,000 people. and he has had the pleasure of living his dream, continues to do so.

Robert C. Marion Jr.
Bob was born in Pendleton, SC.
He began his musical experience in 1970 by learning to play the Trombone & Drums. Later he taught himself to play the Bass Guitar, and Piano by ear. Bob describes himself as a versatile and emotional bass player influenced by the black gospel flavor. His musical inspiration was influenced by his early Christian upbringing in “Kings Chapel A.M.E. Church” in Pendleton, SC. Bob is a member of Nationally Recognized Gospel Quintet “The Gospel Sensations”, and has Performed twice on “BET’s” “Bobby Jones Gospel” Program with the group.
Bob also sings at his Church “Providence Baptist” in Greensboro, NC. He plays bass and sings with the Male Chorus. A Former Lead Singer with “The Legacy Motown Revue” Bob brings his Vocal Stylings, Leadership along with Mentorship to this new and exciting group “SILK GROOVE”.
James "Jay3" Pressley
James hails from the city of Greensboro NC and is a dedicated family man and smooth as silk on vocals.
Jay has performed with “Carolina Soul Band”, and “The Heartbeat of Soul”. He likes all types of music.
James brings a smooth vocal swagg to this new venture called “SILK GROOVE”.
Originally from Philadelphia, PA his exploration of music started at a very early age. Always surrounded by music, it was a natural move to play any and all instruments found in the family household.
He is no stranger to great music. Scott attended “Combs College of Music”, playing gigs, teaching guitar, and bass, traveling, and being a session man in Philly.
He has shared the stage and studio with rising artists, legends and Grammy award winners such as “Tower Of Power”, “The Temptations”, “The Four Tops”, and just about every other well known group from the past four decades. Including those in the jazz community such as “Bob James”, “Marion Meadows”, “Joyce Cooling”, “Paul Brown”, “Nils”, “Bob Baldwin”, “Matt Marshak”, “Dee Lucas”, “Special EFX”, “Grover Washington Jr.” and the list goes on.

Tristan LeDerris Smith
Tristan was born in Durham & raised in Lexington, NC and became involved in music at a very early age. He began singing with church choirs at the tender age of 6. During middle school, Tristan took an interest in and developed a love for playing several instruments. He graduated from Dudley High School in 2002, and attended college at “Benedict College” and “North Carolina A&T”. Tristan started acting in live Nativity scenes at church, which fostered a love for the stage, and performing. His first professional performance was in 2007, and Tristan has been unstoppable since.
As a former Singer for “The Legacy Motown Revue”, he looks forward to this new adventure with “SILK GROOVE”.
A native of High Point, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from North Carolina A&T State University. While in school, Dustin played trumpet in the A&T Jazz Band, holding the solo chair for all 4 years.
He was selected to perform in the African American Jazz Caucus All Star Big Band. This group toured to Toronto, Ontario for the International Association of Jazz Educators as well as the University of Notre Dame.
Dustin also plays lead trumpet for the The Part Time Party Time Band earning an induction into the Beach Music Hall of Fame in 2014. In addition to playing with the Silk Groove, Dustin leads his own jazz group, The Dustin Jennings Jazz Ensemble, and plays music for churches and weddings. He is currently the band director at High Point Central in High Point NC.
